Basic Description

The Excel Countblank function returns the number of blank cells in a supplied range of cells.

The syntax of the function is :

Where the range argument specifies the range of cells in which you want to count blank cells.

Note that, if a cell contains an empty text string or a formula that returns an empty text string, this cell is counted as a blank by the Countblank function.

Countblank Function Examples

The spreadsheets below shows examples of the Excel Countblank function being used to calculate the number of blank cells in two different cell ranges.

Example 1:	- Gives the result 3.
Example 2:	- Gives the result 9.
